Welcome to Grade 5!

One of my family's favorite things to do is SNORKEL!  This picture is in Kenting:-)

Since this is the first blog post, I want to introduce myself to all of you.  My name is Ms.Overland and this is my second year teaching Grade 5 at DISK.  Until moving to Taiwan in January of 2017, I lived my entire life in Washington State.  I met my husband while attending the University of Washington, and we now have two children (they also attend DISK!).  We decided to move to Taiwan because we wanted to get to know my Taiwanese relatives, and have a chance for our family to bond while learning how to live in a new culture/environment.  Our original plan was to live here for one year.  However, we've enjoyed Taiwan so much that we've chosen to stay indefinitely!  We love the friendly people, the warm ocean, and the ability to be outdoors exploring year-round!

This blog is intended to be a place where we will post pictures of our learning, as well as any classroom updates.  Homework, assignments, study guides, etc, will NOT be posted on this blog! For convenience, all teachers will utilize Google Classroom and post all class information there so you can see it all in one spot.  All you have to do is accept the invitations sent by me and your other teachers, and you will be ready to go!  Parents can access the same information, they just need to give teachers their email addresses and invitations will be sent to them, also.

I am VERY excited about this coming school year!  I can't wait to get to know all of you!

Sincerely,
Ms.Overland

What a fabulous first day of school! I am so happy to meet all of you! :-)  Below is a copy of the Welcome Letter that I sent home today.  There's no homework except for the parents to please tell me about their child and send me email and contact information!  Have a great evening!

Dear Parents and Students, WELCOME TO GRADE FIVE!  My name is Kathleen Overland (everyone calls me Kathe), and I am very excited about this coming school year.   Here’s a little bit about me: I’m from the USA and grew up in Washington State. My own educational journey includes my teaching credentials and Masters in Education from the University of Washington.  As for teaching experience, I’ve had the privilege of teaching at both public and private schools in a variety of grades. I look forward to getting t…

We will miss Ms.C!

Our beloved student teacher, Ms.C taught one final lesson on the Present Perfect Verb tense before we took this picture. Then, we headed downstairs to take a picture with the Grade 2 class, since they also had the opportunity to learn from her.  We are all so grateful she was part of our classrooms the past four months! We will miss her a LOT!

Reminder: Mass is tomorrow! Wear Formal Uniforms & Bring Casual Friday clothes!

Friendly reminder that tomorrow is our September Mass in the morning. Students need to wear their formal uniforms (see picture below)  and can bring a change of clothes that are casual.  After mass, students may change into their casual clothing since it's Casual Friday (2nd Friday of every month).
